THE BRONZE.

The material the Memorial will be made from will be Bronze and will be cast using the Lost -  Wax -  Casting Method, a process of metal casting that is over four thousand years old.

The high cost of a sculpture in bronze is due to the many hours of hands - on - labour involved. The first stage is the making of a Clay sculpture by the artist. This is then covered by encasing it in Rubber, applied in several layers until the right thickness is achieved. Most large sculptures will be made in several parts for instance a mold may be created for the head another for the torso, the legs and arms and any other parts necessary. Once the moulds are made Hot Wax is then poured into them and then removed allowing it to evenly coat the interior walls of the mold, plaster is also used to support the "mother mold". There are several more complicated steps to carry out the process in the making of the sculpture, to learn more about the full process go to www.gobronze.org web site where each and every step is explained and photographs of the Lost Wax process can be seen.
